While a win wasn’t in the cards for Bashaw School’s JV girls volleyball team against Ponoka, the players showed improvement in each set.
The Rebels played away against the St. Augustine Queens on Oct. 4 losing 3-0. The Queens proved too tough for the fledgling Rebels who had six players at this game.
That being said, coach Don Seale said he’s proud of the way the athletes are playing. “Every single time that we come out to play I see improvement; individual improvement and team improvement.”
The biggest challenge for the Rebels this season is not to lose the spirit of the game, he explained. “I want them to have their spirits up about the potential that they’re showing.”
With three players on the starting group who haven’t played the sport before, there is a learning curve, however, Seale suggests they just have to move forward.
“The biggest area (of growth) is they know the system far better than they used to,” he said.
The two areas Seal feels the Rebels need to work on is their serving and their serve reception. “Serve reception was about half the points we lost.”
With some players unable to attend the game, it did crate a challenge, but Seale was proud of the overall performance.
