One local golf course is open and the other will be up and running within days.

The Country 9 Golf and RV Resort just north of Bashaw opened officially shortly after the province gave the go-ahead as of May 4. Meanwhile, the Bashaw Golf and Country Club located south of town along Buffalo Lake, will welcome its first golfers on June 1.

At Country 9, all of the provincial protocols relating to COVID-19 are in place and things seem to be going well.

“We have no touch pins, booking of tee times ahead of time and all social distancing applies. That includes sharing carts only with someone from the same household,” stated Rose Gabert, one of County 9’s owners in an email.

“Meanwhile, the course is in excellent shape.”

Tee times can be booked by calling the course at 780-372-2427 or via email at admin@countrynine.com.

Just down the highway, the Bashaw Golf and Country Club’s nine-hole course has seen some difficult winter conditions that has led to a later opening.

According to minutes from an April 20 board meeting, many of the greens showed quite a bit of disease after they were uncovered to prepare for the season.

Meanwhile, both the course and the campground — with seasonal and daily spaces — will open June 1 with strict COVID-19 rules in place. That includes physcial distancing measures while on the course, only golfers from the same household in a cart, sanitization of high touch surfaces along with no sand rakes and leaving the pin in.

The clubhouse will not be open at this time, however some food and beverage service will be available through a mobile cart.

Tee times are available through calling the club at 780-372-2333 or going to Tee-On.com, registering then clicking the booking link and searching for Bashaw.
