Mecca Glen School’s sports teams have had a strong year.
With the girls basketball team earning, not one, not two, but three banners, it’s been a good season. And now with the two curling teams competing for gold and silver, it’s been a good season for curling as well.
This year, Mecca Glen School had 15, Grade 7 to 9 curlers that came to practices once a week at the Calumet two-sheeter.
Eight curlers of two teams went to the Wolf Creek bonspiel on Thursday, March 7th in Lacombe. They competed against other 1J Wolf Creek schools.
They ended up in the gold medal game against each other, which resulted in a gold and silver medal plus the banner for Mecca Glen School.
The two teams that competed in the bonspiel were: Gold - Colin Sim (skip), Cody Albers (third), Kaydance Engele (second), Declan Frazer (lead) Silver - Ethan Bloomquist (skip), Kenzie Padgham (third), Brooklynn Olson (second), Nic Hansen (lead).
The teams were dedicated to the sport and the school is proud of the commitment and effort they displayed each week at practice. They were a pleasure to coach and share the ice with. Coaches were: Dan Lea, Tristan Johnson, Kari Albers, and John Olson.
