There is apparently no appetite amongst Albertans to fund bus transportation.

The most recent Bashaw Star online poll showed a more than 80 per cent negative response to the question — Should government help ensure rural bus services?

Out of a total of 16 votes, there were 13 (81 per cent) that replied ‘no’ with just three (18 per cent) voting yes.

The question stemmed from Greyhound’s announcement earlier this month to end all bus services in western Canada, leaving just one route running between Vancouver and Seattle.

There has been significant uproar from some areas that will be impacted, specifically smaller urban residents that don’t drive and rely on buses to get to major centres regularly.

For a vast majority of rural residents, those areas have been without regularly scheduled bus services for a long time and won’t see much of an impact.

For this week’s online survey, the topic is about volunteer fire departments and how people feel about whether enough is being done to keep them operating effectively and with enough resources.
